<1>Real Madrid vs Getafe

Our call yesterday on Arsenal beating Chelsea at home landed correctly. Arsenal opened the scoring in the 21st minute from a corner, with William Saliba finishing a second-ball header. Just before halftime, Chelsea equalized through an own goal after a corner delivery. Early in the second half, Pedro Neto was sent off after picking up two quick yellow cards, and Arsenal capitalized again from a set-piece, with Jurriën Timber scoring the winner. A late rebound finish was ruled out for offside, and Arsenal ultimately secured a 2–1 victory.

With that win, Arsenal have now recorded four consecutive home victories over Chelsea and extended their unbeaten run against them in all competitions to 11 matches. Beyond the three points, the result also increases pressure on Manchester City in the title race. Holding a five-point advantage (with a game in hand), Arsenal have shown no signs of slipping, and the title battle is clearly heading toward a dramatic finish.

Tonight’s schedule is relatively light, but we still have a headline matchup: Real Madrid vs Getafe.

Real Madrid currently sit second in La Liga. After FC Barcelona secured a convincing 4–1 win over Villarreal CF this round, the gap at the top has widened to four points. That makes a home win here essential if Madrid want to keep the title race alive.

Getafe, meanwhile, are five points clear of the relegation zone. While survival pressure is manageable, they still need points to secure a stable mid-table position.

Historically, Real Madrid dominate this matchup. Across the last 10 meetings, they hold an 8W–1D–1L record. Earlier this season, Madrid won 1–0 away despite Getafe being reduced to nine men. At home, Madrid have won the last five meetings, and Getafe’s last victory at the Bernabéu is a distant memory, reinforcing a clear psychological disadvantage.

Real Madrid are dealing with a significant injury crisis.

Kylian Mbappé is ruled out due to a worsening knee issue. He has been crucial this season, scoring 38 goals in 33 appearances across all competitions. His absence will heavily impact attacking efficiency.

Other key absentees include Jude Bellingham and several rotation players. The positive news is the return of Rodrygo, while Vinícius Júnior is in outstanding form, contributing six goals in his last five matches and now serving as the primary attacking focal point.

In midfield, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Arda Güler, and Federico Valverde are expected to start, while an 18-year-old academy prospect could make his La Liga debut. Defensively, Antonio Rüdiger and David Alaba should anchor the back line, keeping the overall structure stable.

Getafe also face squad issues. Defensive leader and captain Djené is suspended, while key forward Borja Mayoral and several defensive rotation players are sidelined. Their defensive depth is clearly weakened, and their attack has already struggled all season with just 20 goals scored—fewer than one per game.

Real Madrid manager Álvaro Arbeloa is expected to deploy a 4-4-2 system, leveraging home advantage with high pressing and sustained possession. The main attacking route will likely come from Vinícius’ pace and dribbling on the flank, supported by overlapping full-backs and late midfield runs. Set-pieces could also be decisive against a compact defensive block.

Getafe will likely remain pragmatic, using a 5-3-2 defensive structure. Their approach should focus on low-block defending, counterattacks, and set-piece opportunities. However, their passing accuracy (around 71%) and low chance creation numbers suggest they will struggle to build meaningful attacking sequences under Madrid’s pressure.

Despite the injury list, Real Madrid remain in strong form, recently defeating SL Benfica in the Champions League to reach the quarterfinals. Their home record is elite—91.7% win rate, scoring 29 goals and conceding only eight across 12 home matches. Squad depth remains sufficient to handle rotation.

Getafe, on the other hand, are weakened defensively and lack attacking efficiency. Playing away, it will be extremely difficult for them to absorb Madrid’s sustained pressure over 90 minutes.
